About Us
PRISON FELLOWSHIP NIGERIA
Prison Fellowship Nigeria is a movement rooted in reconciliation and restoration within the criminal justice system. Inspired by a commitment to compassion and guided by a deep sense of purpose, the organisation brings together individuals dedicated to supporting communities in their outreach to inmates, ex-inmates, their families, and victims of crime, while promoting fairness and justice in criminal justice practices.
With a mission shaped by values of hope and transformation, Prison Fellowship staff and volunteers are committed to a three-fold purpose:
(a) To collaborate with correctional facilities, offering chaplaincy services, prayers and Christian discipleship support, fostering personal growth, and encouraging positive change among inmates.
(b) To partner with communities, equipping and assisting local organisations and churches in their outreach to inmates, ex-inmates, their families, and victims of crime.
(c) To contribute to the development of criminal justice systems that are restorative, effective, fair, and uphold universal principles of human dignity and rights.
Prison Fellowship International (PFI), a global movement, was founded in 1976 by Charles Colson, a special counsel to President Nixon, who was convicted in the Water Gate scandal of the Nixon administration in the United States of America. It is the most extensive world movement of volunteers involved in criminal justice field working through 112 member Nations.
Today, PF Nigeria comprises more than 2,000 volunteers and organisations across 31 states nationwide. As a movement inspired by faith and dedicated to the principles of reconciliation and restoration, we continue to serve as agents of hope and change within the criminal justice system.
